Stone Temple Pilots Release Early Demo of “Sex Type Thing,” Announce 25th Anniversary Core Deluxe Set

Stone Temple Pilots - CoreOn September 29th — 25 years to the day since Stone Temple Pilots released their breakthrough debut album Core — the band will release a special 25th anniversary edition of the landmark record. The set will come in two forms: a standard two-CD edition with a remastered version of the original album plus a bunch of B-sides and demos, and a super-deluxe edition with four CDs, vinyl, a DVD and more.

The band just put out an early demo of “Sex Type Thing” to whet fans’ appetites, and it’s exactly the kind of trippy, Twilight Zone-like trips down a distorted version of memory lane these things always are. It’s actually way closer to its finished form than I was expecting, a testament to the clear vision the DeLeo brothers had very early on. Other than surface/production aesthetics, only some drum fills and guitar layering are noticeably different (and even then, barely), along with the absence of Scott Weiland’s bellowed “Here I come, I come, I come, I come” refrain coming out of the bridge.

We aren’t able to embed the track, but you can listen to it — and pre-order the 25th anniversary Core set — right here.
