“Despacito” Covered in the Styles of Iron Maiden, Slayer, Tool, Motorhead and More

Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s smash summer hit “Despacito” has now gotten the Ten Second Songs treatment, joining countless other pop hits to be covered by the YouTube master in the styles of some of our favorite metal bands.

As I always am while watching these, I’m struck by how specific a particular band’s style is that it can be mimicked so easily even within the constraints of a song in a completely different genre. For example: the Iron Maiden section in this clip sounds just like Iron Maiden, which the galloping drums, the harmonized lead guitars, soaring vocals, etc. Ditto for the sections in the style of Motorhead, Slayer and Babymetal … and even acts from as far out in left field as The Doors and Gloria Estefan! Nailed it.

Here’s a fun game: press play, then switch over into another browser tab or put your phone down and see if you can guess which band’s style he’s trying to ape.
