In June, New Hampshire’s Vattnet Viskar took fans by surprise when they both shortened their name to simply ‘Vattnet‘ and, more importantly, drastically changed their sound from atmospheric black metal to something quite a bit more melodic and progressive. What took fans even more by surprise, though, was that Vattnet turned out to be just as talented at making sensitive, tuneful metal full of clean singing as they were at being knights in Satan’s service. Most bands struggle just to pull off one metallic subgenre in a satisfactory way. We’d be furious at these dudes for being so talented, but we’re enjoying their music too much to be angry.

Which is why we jumped at the chance to premiere their new track, “Better Ghost”! Aggro but not punishing, pretty but not poppy, and emotion but not whiney, “Better Ghost” is exemplary of both Vattnet’s new sound, and their talent for creating that sound. Imagine a most excellent hybrid of Junius, Dredg, and Circa Survive, and you’ll have some idea of Vattnet’s vibe.

So do yourself a solid and check out “Better Ghost” below! The track will appear on Vattnet’s self-titled full-length, which drops September 15 on New Damage Records. Pre-order it here (physical) or here (digital)!
