Indecision Guitarist Justin Brannan is Running for NYC City Council

0

While going from hardcore musician to politician may seem like quite a jump, dig just below the surface and it makes perfect sense: the positive values held by many hardcore musicians are the perfect embodiment of what we want and hope our politicians will be.

So it is for Justin Brannan, guitarist for ’90s NYHC outfit Indecision and ’00s metalcore outfit Most Precious Blood, who has decided to make a run of it this fall for a spot on the NYC City Council, the city’s law-making body. Brannan is running as a Democrat for a soon-to-be-vacant seat in the 43rd district of Brooklyn, which covers Bay Ridge, Dyker heights, Bath Beach, and parts of Bensonhurst.

From his official campaign website:

Friends,

As you know, I’m running for the open City Council seat here in the 43rd district which covers

Bay Ridge, Dyker heights, Bath Beach, and parts of Bensonhurst. I’m proud to say that Councilman Vinnie Gentile, who is term-limited and cannot run for re-election, has endorsed me to be his successor, and I’m proud and honored to have his support.

I grew up in the shadow of the Verrazzano Bridge, and have always called our community
home. My wife, Leigh, and I own a small business here, and my mom, Mary, has been an educator here for over 30 years. Helping others is my passion, and with your support, I hope to continue my work in an official capacity as your next Councilmember.

To me, representing our community means making sure everyone has a fair shot at opportunity no matter who they are, or where they come from. It means making sure that our government functions at its most basic level — providing good schools, safe neighborhoods, reliable mass transit, senior services, and yes, smooth streets that we can walk, bike, and drive on.

Now more than ever, we need to elect people with guts — people who aren’t afraid to stand up for what’s right. I was raised to have a strong work ethic, and an equally strong backbone, and I know how to cut through the red tape to get the job done.

The path forward begins here at the local level. I’m excited for you to be a part of our campaign!

See you on the campaign trail!

JB

Those living in the 43rd district should give Brannan’s website a look and glance through his policy ideas, which all seem to be right on. The transportation section on his site, for example, begins like this: “The New York City subway system is a disgrace.” Amen.

Primary elections will be held on September 12th, with the general election coming November 7th. In New York City it is VERY important to vote in the primaries, since that’s where the real decisions are made between different Democrats running — whoever wins the primary is (usually) a sure thing to beat the Republican challenger in November.

Get involved here.

Thanks: Eric Smith
