Stream Usnea’s Doomy New Masterpiece Portals Into Futility

We haven’t yet covered the new album by Portland-based doom/sludge-slingers Usnea, and for that I apologize. I don’t have a good excuse, especially seeing as I couldn’t stop raving about their 2014 album Random Cosmic Violence. Time just got away from me, I suppose.

But all’s well that ends well, right? Usnea’s new album Portals Into Futility comes out today, and I’ll attempt to atone for my sins by sharing it with you via Noisey (embedded below). I previously described Usnea as “that rare doom band that can write cinematic, epic pieces full of drama that are ALSO memorable songs,” and listening to their new album right now for the first time — I’m still on the first track as I type this — I stand by that assessment 100%. I’m only seven minutes into this album and already it’s fucking great.

Check it out below. Portals Into Futility comes out today via Relapse; order it here.
