Stream Spotlights’ New Dream-Sludge Masterpiece Seismic in Full

0

Dream-sludge duo Spotlights have created quite a lot of buzz for themselves lately — not to mention impressing the pants off everyone here at the MS Mansion — so, after hearing a couple of tracks from their new album Seismic, it’s high time we get to hear it in full.

And Seismic does not disappoint, finding the duo of Mario and Sarah Quintero expertly weaves downtuned sludge riffs with dreamy, atmospheric soundscapes in dramatic fashion. Extrapolated over a full album — this one produced by Aaron Harris (Isis/Palms) — the dynamic range of how far that formula can stretch is quite impressive; this is, mercifully, not one of those album on which all the songs blend together.

Explains Mario:

Seismic came out of a reaction to the current state of humanity and the inevitable consequences we will have on this earth and ourselves. There’s an odd sense of beauty that comes with destruction, and we tried to capture that musically on this album.

Check it out below. Seismic comes out on October 6th via Ipecac Records; pre-order here. Catch them on tour with Hundredth starting November 30th — dates underneath the stream.
