Listen to Avenged Sevenfold’s Cover of Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here”

As part of the “expansion” of their latest album The Stage, Avenged Sevenfold have been rolling out some cover tunes in quick succession: the Spanish standard “Malaguena Salerosa,” Mr. Bungle’s “Retrovertigo,” Del Shannon’s “Runaway,” The Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows,” and The Rolling Stones “As Tears Go By” to date.

Their latest is a version of one of Pink Floyd’s best-known tracks, the hauntingly beautiful “Wish You Were Here.” Musically, the band doesn’t take too many artistic liberties on this one; it’s played pretty close to the original throughout but with a more modern drum approach. M. Shadows’ voice does give the track a distinctly A7X feel, though, as does the use of electric guitar for the solos later in the song.

Throw those lighters up in the air if ya got ’em… errrrr, cell phones.

All six covers, a new original song called “Dose” and four live tracks will appear on a deluxe version of The Stage set to be release December 15th; pre-order it here. Catch Avenged Sevenfold on tour this winter with Breaking Benjamin and Bullet For My Valentine.
