Shit That Comes Out Today: October 6, 2017

New York City was the most incredible place I’ve ever been in my life and I am now officially planning my great escape from the Midwest. Maybe it’s because I want to be able to egg Vince and Axl’s houses at will, maybe it’s because I want something more out of my future than a desk job. Who knows. I regret to say that many of you will be disappointed that my efforts to get myself fired were unsuccessful. I tried to puke on Vince while blackout drunk but it didn’t work. I even tried telling Axl that Oceano were really good live! Nonetheless, you surely will be excited about the big name releases dropping this week. Let’s get down to it.

the-black-dahlia-murder-nightbringersThe Black Dahlia Murder
Nightbringers (Metal Blade Records)
On a playlist with Arsis, All Shall Perish and As Blood Runs Black
Listen: “Nightbringers”

The Black Dahlia Murder are back with a fucking vengeance. If you’ve ever listened to these dudes, then you probably don’t need me to tell you how good this album is. Nightbringers combines the melodies of Nocturnal with the chaos of Deflorate and the result is an absolute auditory treat that demands to be heard by any self-respecting metal fan. This is the best album you will hear all year, but for more of my opinion you can check out my official review. If you’re interested in learning how to do death growls, check out this video where Trevor teaches me how. You can also check out random New York City tourists reacting to the album.

marilyn-manson-heaven-upside-downMarilyn Manson
Heaven Upside Down (Loma Vista Recordings)
On a playlist with Rob Zombie, Nine Inch Nails and Korn
Listen: “WE KNOW WHERE YOU FUCKING LIVE”

Something something something Marilyn Manson sucking his own dick, something something something “The Beautiful People.” I wish I could just skip this part of the column but I have a job to do so whatever. I really like Manson as a person. He’s a pretty intelligent dude and has a sense of humor, but Christ almighty I cannot stand the guy’s music. I saw him perform at whichever Mayhemfest it was that he headlined and it was easily one of the worst concert experiences I’ve ever had. If your inner goth kid is still itching for more Manson, then here you are. Check out Axl’s review if you need to know more.

augustburnsredAugust Burns Red
Phantom Anthem (Fearless Records)
On a playlist with As I Lay Dying, Parkway Drive and Architects
Listen: “The Frost”

Out of all the bands I get flak for liking, August Burns Red are probably the one that gets me the most. But I don’t care, even if they are a Jesus band. August Burns Red have a very distinct sound and it’s pretty easy to hear them in the background and immediately know who they are, which is pretty high praise for a metalcore band. Granted, I know that August Burns Red aren’t really in the same vein of metalcore as garbage like Sworn In, but it doesn’t matter. I will always love this band as long as I don’t look up the lyrics and it looks like that is going to continue with Phantom Anthem.

fireballministryFireball Ministry
Remember the Story (Cleopatra)
On a playlist with The Company Band, Fu Manchu and Five Horse Johnson
Listen: “Back On Earth”

I can say with full confidence that if there ever were an actual Fireball ministry, then I would change my mind about going to church on Sundays. Well, maybe I’d go on Saturdays because I have to watch football on Sundays. Actually, maybe Saturdays wouldn’t work because I’m normally busy getting hammered. Whatever. The name of this band should give away their sound. They’re about as rock as you can get and to top it off, “Back On Earth” has some pretty sick cowbell going on. I’m not even going to link the joke. You all fucking know it.

primitivemanPrimitive Man
Caustic (Relapse)
On a playlist with Cephalic Carnage, Bongripper and Fister
Listen: “My Will”

Primitive Man are fucking filthy. But if that surprises you, well, I don’t know. They’re called Primitive Man. It really shouldn’t surprise you. Primitive Man are a band I would recommend to the seasoned doom veteran who is tired of bands that are easy to listen to. That, or you have a blown out speaker and want music that will still sound the same no matter what kind of system it’s being played on. Primitive Man are not for the faint of heart and if you make the mistake of clicking on the featured song without preparing yourself, then you are probably going to need a shower.
