Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine Has Lyme Disease
Megadeth mastermind Dave Mustaine has revealed via Twitter that he’s been diagnosed with Lyme Disease.
Mustaine initially wrote:
“i needed to come home [from tour]. i have a tick bite from the farm that made me really sick for the last few months and I am really tired.”
When a fan replied urging Mustaine to make sure he didn’t have Lyme Disease, he confirmed that it is, indeed, the ailment from which he is suffering.
In case you’re unaware of what Lyme Disease is, here’s how it’s defined by the Center for Disease Control:
“Lyme disease is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi and is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected blacklegged ticks. Typical symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migrans. If left untreated, infection can spread to joints, the heart, and the nervous system. Lyme disease is diagnosed based on symptoms, physical findings (e.g., rash), and the possibility of exposure to infected ticks. Laboratory testing is helpful if used correctly and performed with validated methods. Most cases of Lyme disease can be treated successfully with a few weeks of antibiotics.”
Unfortunately, treatment can also be necessary beyond just “a few weeks” — I’ve had friends who have had to deal with it for months and months, and in one severe case, I knew a child who was hospitalized. Hopefully, Mustaine has a far easier time with his recovery.
