Corey Taylor Has Heard as Much of the New Slipknot Album as You Have

Why, ’twas just a coupla weeks ago when Slipknot’s  Shawn “Clown” Crahan said the band had “seven or eight” new songs finished. Which actually isn’t much, given Clown’s ambition of making a double record, but still! It’s seven or eight songs closer to giving Maggots a new Slipknot album than we had before. Every bit counts!

Uh, except okay here’s the thing, I think that, as it turns out, Clown has a different definition of the word “finished” from most of us. Because at least one key element of Slipknot’s music is not yet in place on these tracks: the vocals of Corey Taylor. NBD.

When asked during a recent interview when the new ‘Knot offering might be released, Taylor replied…

“I have no idea. I haven’t even heard any of this stuff. In true Slipknot fashion, I’m being told through the press that this is all going on. So it is what it is. I can guarantee you that it’s very creative, I can guarantee you that it’s dark. I can guarantee you that it’s going to be unlike anything I’ve ever heard before. I know [Clown’s] mind, I know Jim [Root]’s mind. I just am really looking forward to hearing it when I’m allowed to hear it.”

LOL to his “when I’m allowed to hear it” comment. More importantly, I think the key part of this quote is actually “in true Slipknot fashion” — which is to say, we’ve been here before, with one member of the band contradicting another in the press. So I don’t think anyone should bug out over Taylor’s admission. I mean, cut them some slack. There’s 74 members in this band. Managing coherent e-mail chains must be a real bitch.

Besides, it’s only three years since The Gray Chapter, which is still less than the wait in-between that release and All Hope is Gone. I’m betting we’ll still hear this thing before we hear the new Tool album.
