Listen to Godflesh “Be God”

Godflesh, the legendary industrial trio featuring Justin Broadrick, Not Justin Broadrick, and Laptop, have released a new song, “Be God.” I thought of that joke last week while discussing the band with some friends and it made me laugh so I wanted to use it, but I don’t actually mean any disrespect — “Be God” fucking rules, man. There’s something about Broadrick’s grotesque vocals, the steel wool guitars, the howling wind noises, and the “I Against I”-esque alarm-chime-stab sounds that remind me of what it’s like to have an anxiety attack: you can’t tell if everything is getting bigger or just closer, and the fact that you can’t tell only adds to your sense of panic, your total loss of control. That might sound like another diss, but remember, this is metal, where “brutal” is a good thing.

Check out “Be God” below. The track comes offa Godflesh’s new album, Post Self, which comes out this Friday, November 17 via frontman Broadrick’s own Avalanche Recordings. Listen to another new song, “Post Self,” here.
