This isn’t necessarily about metal per se, but given that it involves members of two of MetalSucks’ most favoritest bands, it seemed worth sharing.

When he’s not playing guitar with Destrage, Matteo Di Gioia is a founder of The Jack Stupid, “a creative studio specializing in funky images and rock’n’roll writing.” I encourage you to visit their website, because they’ve done a bunch of cool stuff, but for the purposes of this post, we’re going to concentrate on Aeon Azure, a “short animated film [that] tells the story of a silent creature who attempts to bend the laws of nature to feel less lonely.” The short, a “mixture of frame-by-frame, 2D and 3D animation,” was originally intended as a video for the song “Dead Colours” by Mellowtoy:

Thing is, the video came out really well, but, in Matteo’s own words, “we had over-written it” — meaning the clip couldn’t really do justice to the story that The Jack Stupid had dreamed up. And so, with Mellowtoy’s blessing, they decided to expand it into a proper short. Then, while the Destrage were touring the U.K. with SikTh, Matteo and SikTh vocalist Mikee Goodman got to talking, and long story short, Mikee ended up adapting the script into a poem, which he narrates over the video.

The resulting short is visually stunning, and makes a serious case for Mikee Goodman as a voice-over actor. Hey, it’s not as though there isn’t a precedent for metal vocalists doing that kind of work: Mike Patton lent his voice to the movie I  Am Legend and The Darkness video games, Dee Snider was the voice of MSNBC for awhile, John Bush voiced a whole buncha Burger King commercials, and even Axl Rose did a vocal cameo as a DJ in one of the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Check out the short below. If you dig it, you can find much more from The Jack Stupid here.
