California Wildfires a Threat to Zakk Wylde’s Home

MetalSucks had a very, very fun video shoot with Zakk Wylde planned earlier this week, the premise of which I won’t give away here because I’m hoping we’ll still be able to do it someday. Alas, the shoot was cancelled the night before it was scheduled to take place, because, we were told, Zakk had to fly home immediately for a family emergency.

New York’s own Q104.3 now has more details of that emergency, and I feel pretty dumb for not having put it together sooner:

“Zakk Wylde was in New York Tuesday doing press when he learned of the increasing risk to his family and home posed by wildfires raging in Southern California.

“Wylde was playing a brief acoustic set at iHeartRadio’s Dunkin Donuts Iced Coffee Lounge when someone asked him what his plans are for the weekend.

“‘Well, hopefully we’re heading back home to California,’ Wylde responded, ‘and have a house to go to… at the rate [the wildfire is] going.’”

Wylde, whose mood reportedly remained upbeat despite the news, later told those in attendance that “As long as we get the kids and the dogs out, it’s all good.”

Meanwhile, Wylde’s wife, Barbaranne, tweeted the following:

It should go without saying that everyone here at MetalSucks is pulling for this story to have a happy ending. Zakk’s right, of course — the lives of his family members are what matter most. But losing your home is, obviously, a tragedy unto itself, and I can only imagine what kinds of family memories (photos, home videos, etc.), priceless rock n’ roll memorabilia, and expensive gear is currently in the house. Losing all of that would be brutal. And not in a good way.

Here’s video of Zakk commenting on the situation before he left New York:
