Avenged Sevenfold and Halestorm have a lot in common. For example, they’re both highly successful, highly divisive bands that even their detractors have to admit have chops. People who loathe Avenge Sevenfold have been forced to begrudgingly concede that those dudes can play the ever-lovin’ shit out of their instruments; likewise, I don’t especially enjoy Halestorm, but I can’t deny that singer Lzzy Hale has pipes (Avenged frontman M. Shadows calls her “The best fucking singer in rock n’ roll”).
So, unsurprisingly, when Hale recently joined A7X onstage in Nashville for a cover of Pink Floyd’s obscure b-side “Wish You Were Here,” everyone nailed it. Actually, I like this way better than any Halestorm song I’ve ever heard, which makes sense, because, y’know, Halestorm < Pink Floyd. It kinda makes me wish Lzzy was on the studio version of Avenged Sevenfold’s cover.
Enjoy. Or, don’t enjoy, but be unable to repudiate that it’s pretty good:
