Machine Head Debut New Song + Video, “Kaleidoscope”

I’ve heard Robb Flynn say something to the effect of “We don’t play and listen to metal because we want to, we do it because we have to” several times. I think a lot of us feel that way: heavy music provides catharsis. And that’s obviously a running theme on Machine Head’s new album, which is called — wait for it — Catharsis, but it’s really theme of “Kaleidoscope,” the latest Catharsis track to be unveiled. The lyrics make that abundantly clear, but the track was also clearly written as a clap-along anthem, the kind of song that, in synchronizing the actions of the crowd, makes them feel united, like one large living, breathing unit. In other words, the song is destined to provide… uh… release.

(Guys, I’m trying here. Have you checked out the available synonyms for the word ‘catharsis’? Like I’m gonna put the word ‘ablution’ in a MetalSucks post?)

Check out “Kaleidoscope” via the very trippy music video below. Catharsis comes out January 26th via Nuclear Blast; pre-order here. Get Machine Head’s upcoming “Evening With” tour dates here.
