Slayer’s Farewell Show in Dallas Sells Out in Minutes; Scalpers Seek Thousands of Dollars for Tickets

It would appear that someone seriously underestimated the demand for tickets to Slayer’s upcoming farewell tour.

Longtime MetalSucks reader Jamie B. tells us that the band’s June 19 show at the Bomb Factory in Dallas, TX — which will also include Lamb of God, Anthrax, Behemoth, and Testament — sold out in three minutes. According to the venue’s website, their capacity is “up to 4,300 fans.” If that sounds small for a show with this line-up, that’s because it is. Slayer, Lamb of God, and Behemoth played the theater at Madison Square Garden (a smaller venue within the storied arena) here in New York last year; that room can hold 5,500. And that’s without the addition of Anthrax and Testament, or the added publicity resulting from this being Slayer’s swan song. By contrast, the same tour’s local stop in the Tri-State area will be at the PNC Bank Arts Center’s amphitheater, which has a capacity of more than 17,000 people.

The result of this inequality in supply and demand? Scalpers on the web are seeking thousands of dollars for tickets to the show (see screencaps below; I don’t wanna link to the site because fuck this people… if you’re really willing to pay this much for Slayer tickets, I’m sure you can find it on your own). Even cheaper options are going for hundreds of dollars, more than I can ever remember having paid to see Slayer in my life (including on mega-bills like Ozzfest).

Unfortunately for disappointed fans, there may not be easy solution to this problem. The obvious answers would be to move the show to a bigger venue, or add a second night at the Bomb Factory (the tour and the factory appear to be free the night before this show). But those actions are much more easily said than done. So there may be no way to accommodate those who can’t get tickets.

If it makes those fans feel any better, though, this is not actually Slayer’s farewell tour. That was the American Carnage tour in 2010 — the last time they ever toured with both Jeff Hanneman and Dave Lombardo.
