Lights Had a High School Metal Band Called Shovel Face

I know I’m fucking old because I have no clue who the hell Lights is, but apparently, she’s popular with the kids these days. I tried listening to some of her music and my ears threw up.

But if you’re one of the kids who likes Lights, you may be interested to know that she recently revealed she had a high school metal band called Shovel Face, whose primary influences were Mudvayne, Fear Factory, and Hatebreed. In fact, the nice people on Reddit even dug up a photo and video of the band, taken/filmed circa 2002, when Lights was fifteen. The photo looks appropriately nu-metallish for the era, I guess; in the video they’re covering “99 Luftballons,” which is, uh, somewhat less metal (although she cites Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello as an influence).
