Today in Bummer Band Break-Ups / Hiatuses: Truckfighters and Vattnet

0

Well, this stinks: two highly excellent bands have announced in the past day that they’re calling it quits.

Swedish stoner rockers Truckfighters released a statement yesterday via Facebook that they’re going on “a long, long hiatus” at the very least with a permanent break-up possible. Their statement was short and to the point, and while it doesn’t specify an exact reason for the break it seems they’re simply just burnt out:

“Sad news for some, but totally necessary. Truckfighters is on a long, long hiatus. Might come back stronger than ever (that’s the only way) or not at all! We’ve been releasing many albums that we’re very proud of and the key is that we’ve always played because of the pure fun out of it. That’s the only thing that counts and in the end made us do what we did so good for so many years… We’re not that kind of band continuing doing something just because we make money out of it ;)

“A big THANK YOU to all the amazing fans and people we’ve meet over the years, some more amazing that others but you all deserve a big hug.

“Fuzz n’ out!”

New Hampshire metallers Vattnet — who recently transitioned from black metal to something more spacey and rock-based along with a name change from Vattnet Viskar — also announced yesterday they’d be hanging it up. The revelation came via guitarist Chris Alfieri on Twitter, and while new music from the band’s members in other projects is all but certain — Alfieri teased a new project in his post while bassist Casey Aylward is staying very busy on guitar with Astronoid [together with ex-Vattnet members Matt St. Jean (drums) and Brett Boland (guitar)] — it seems the door is very much shut on anything from Vattnet in the future:

“I have been putting off saying this publicly but as you may have noticed Vattnet is officially done. I have met so many awesome ppl on this journey over the past 7 years. I will be announcing some awesome news about future music soon. thank you and godspeed.

“I probably won’t post anything on our pages as I’d rather us just ride off into the sunset quietly but wanted to say thanks to the Twitter community as it has offered so much to me and the band. 2018 will definitely be glorious.”

Sorry for blowing up your spot, Chris. #notsorry

Huge bummers all around. Jam both bands’ latest albums below as you cry into your morning coffee.
