Craving Some Doomy Indie Rock? Check Out This White Light

0

This White Light are a new band with a peculiar lineup of familiar musicians: Greg Anderson (Goatsnake, Sunn O))), and co-founder of Southern Lord Records), Bryan Herweg (Pelican), Jade Devitt (who joined Greg Anderson in Engine Kid), and vocalist Jen Wood (Tattle Tale, The Postal Service’s “Nothing Better,” her solo career, and more).

“Winter Flowers,” This White Light’s very first single, is either very mellow metal or amped up indie rock depending on how you look at it. Wood’s pure vocals are complimented by the drone of heavy guitars to create some sort of sludgy-yet-tranquil post-rock that I’ve never heard before. While it’s not br00tal or technically complex in any way, Winter Flowers is actually rather charming. It’s like Lana Del Ray found some friends with guitars and started making doom. Check it out below.

If ya dig “Winter Flowers,” stay tuned for more music from This White Light. The band just recorded with Josh Homme (Queens Of The Stone Age) last week.
