Another Hint That AC/DC Will Record a New Album with Axl Rose
Rumors have been swirling that AC/DC are planning to record new music with Axl Rose, who filled in on vocals at the band’s live dates in 2016 after Brian Johnson left the band due to hearing loss. So far this year a respected Australian journalist and known authority on AC/DC claimed a new album with Rose was happening, while Rose Tattoo frontman Angry Anderson let slip in an interview that Young told him confidentially that would be the case.
Add one more piece of evidence to the pile: longtime Guns N’ Roses tour manager Del James shared a photo on Instagram of an old Atlantic Records letter announcing the release of AC/DC’s 1978 album Powerage,” which just celebrated its 40th anniversary.
Would James have shared the photo if not for ongoing connection between Guns and AC/DC? Could the share simply be a nod to the 2016 spate of live dates? Both are certainly possible, but the timing, together with the previous rumors, certainly seems to point in the direction of new music. There’s also this: Slash is set to release a new solo album this fall, meaning Rose would have the bandwidth to take on the AC/DC project.
We will, of course, keep you updated.
