Tool Dedicated Last Night’s Rock on the Range Set to Chris Cornell

0

It was an emotional weekend for rock and metal fans of a certain age, as Friday, May 18th marked the one-year anniversary of the passing of Chris Cornell. Soundgarden had been scheduled to headline at the Rock on the Range festival last year just days later, making this year’s incarnation especially charged.

Alice in Chains paid tribute to Chris and Soundgarden by performing two relatively obscure tracks to close out Friday’s headlining set, and Tool joined in by dedicating their festival-closing performance Sunday night to their fallen contemporary. Alternative Nation reports that after the first song (“The Grudge”), Maynard James Keenan addressed the crowd, simply saying:

“We’d like to dedicate our entire set to the friends and family of Chris Cornell.”

Short but to the point, per Maynard’s usual M.O. Maynard later on spoke to the slow progress of the band’s new album, saying:

“We fear the end of your patience. Things are progressing. Slow as fuck, but progressing.”

Here’s some fan-filmed footage of Tool performing “Aenima” at Rock on the Range last night:
