Ghost Ended Last Night’s Show Early After a Fan Collapsed and Passed Away

This is surely not the way Ghost were hoping to ring in the release of their new album Prequelle, which comes out today.

At the band’s show at the Riverside Theater in Milwaukee, WI last night, a fan collapsed during the intermission between sets. Paramedics were called, the man was taken away and shortly thereafter it was announced that the remainder of the show would be called off. The band also canceled a planned afterparty at midnight to ring in the release of their new album scheduled to take place at the store Exclusive Company.

The Journal Sentinel reports that the man, whose name and other details have not been released, died at Columbia St. Mary’s hospital. His family was reportedly with him at the show.

A number of fans in attendance have taken to Reddit and the Facebook event page for the show to share their versions of the events. Multiple reports indicate that it took EMS an especially long time to get to the fallen men, possibly because venue staff didn’t call quickly enough and/or possibly because of an overcrowded or oversold general admission area (although this has not been confirmed). Before EMS arrived, a Ghost fan in attendance who happens to be a paramedic herself offered to help but was denied, told by venue staff “they had someone on the way.”

Predictably, a number of insensitive fans were upset about the cancelation of the second half of the show and were demanding refunds.

Ghost issued a statement on the matter:

“Tonight, in Milwaukee there was a medical emergency with one of our fans. We decided not to continue out of respect to him and his family. Ghost and all who work with us ask that you please send the family your thoughts, prayers and respect their privacy during this time.”

On behalf of everyone at MetalSucks, we wish the best to the fallen fan, his family and his friends.
