Fire in the Mountains: A Metal Gathering in the Heart of the Wyoming Wilderness

Need a break from the monotony of civilization? Fire in the Mountains is a two day metal gathering nestled in the wilderness of the Heart Six Ranch in Jackson, WY. More than just a typical outdoor metal festival, FITM is an intentional convergence of art, music, and revelry celebrating the relationship between heavy music and mountain landscapes. Their mission statement reads:

“Connecting to oneself through music, art, adventure, and education, all in a remote wilderness setting, Fire in the Mountains will act as an immersion-based experience seeking to kindle one’s inner fire and relationship with the natural world.”

I have yet to attend the festival myself, but I’ve heard nothing but amazing things from my peers, who have described it as a transcendental, once in a lifetime experience. This year’s top-notch lineup will feature Panopticon, Kallice, Wayfarer, and headliners Wovenhand, whose music is a mish-mash of psychedelic rock and roll, dark American folk, country, and Americana with nods to metal and post-punk. Check below for full lineup details.

If this sounds like your kind of gig, visit the Fire in the Mountains official website for tickets and more info. The event will be taking place June 30th and July 1st, and aside from the music will provide hiking trips, white water rafting, backpacking, fishing, canoeing horseback rides, and more wilderness activities right out the backdoor of the ranch. Too far of a drive for you? There are rideshares from Boise, Denver, Salt Lake City, and Bozeman, and camping gear is available for rent here, so you have absolutely no excuse to miss this uniquely isolated experience. I’ll see you there.
