Vein: Wat U Think?

0

Boston outfit Vein are making quite a bit of noise these days, with metal publications and more indie-focused ones like Brooklyn Vegan and Stereogum alike jumping on board the Vein train early and a high-profile tour support slot with Code Orange set for later this spring. So what are these guys all about?

In a nutshell, Vein play bruising hardcore, math metal and nu-metal all mixed into one, the perfect synthesis of right-now-ness for 2018. It’s no surprise they’re touring with Code Orange: there are a lot of sonic similarities, although Vein’s music seems a bit more frenetic and chaotic than the former.

The opening riff on “Virus://Vibrance” is straight off any Slipknot record (pick one) while the chorus is pure Dillinger Escape Plan and the aggressive vibe is hardcore all the way. It’s got everything that appeals to an early-to-mid twenty-something fan of heavy music, mining influences that someone who’s new to the genre might not fully know (the same way Power Trip, Turnstile, Code Orange, etc. do), but it’s done in a tasteful enough way that us olds can dig on it too. It’s got all the elements of a potential Next Big Thing, IMO.

So: what do YOU think? Listen to a couple of the jams from Vein’s forthcoming album Errorzone (June 22nd, Closed Casket Activities) below and tell us in the comments.
