Listen to the First New 7 Horns 7 Eyes Song in Six Years, “The March” (Instrumental)

Depending on who you ask, a new album from 7 Horns 7 Eyes might be even more anxiously awaited than whatever Tool, System of a Down and Necrophagist or currently concocting… combined. Throes of Absolution was a monumentally gorgeous piece of atmospheric death metal that landed in a big way when it hit in 2012 — especially for a debut! — but then… bupkes. Just a lot of empty promises and some very, very sad death metal nerds the internet over.

Welp, bupkes no more: at the 2017 edition of the Meinl Drum Festival, 7H7E drummer Alex Rudinger (who’s also played in a zillion other bands you like) performed a new track called “The March” for a live audience, and WOW, ODIN ALMIGHTY, it’s a beast! Yes, this was filmed in 2017, that’s not a typo; Meinl has been making us wait almost an entire year to hear and watch this. But it’s so, so worth it! Rudinger is an absolute beast — those fills are INSANE, and typical of Aaron Smith’s writing style — and Smith himself is as on point as ever with his lush arrangements and orchestrations. Now we just need some of JJ Polachek IV’s deep, manly death metal growls and we’ll have ourselves a full on doozy.

Smith gave this video release his blessing, although there’s no word yet on a sophomore album from 7 Horns 7 Eyes. Guess we’ll just have to keep waiting.
