Exclusive Track Premiere: “What Is Anything” by Future Usses (Intronaut, Bereft, Etc.)

How many awesome bands can one musician possibly be in? For Sacha Dunable, at least, the answer seems to be “Never enough.” Already a hero of the metal community thanks to his work with Intronaut, Bereft, and Graviton, Dunable is now launching another long-gestating project, Future Usses. Geez, Sacha. Save some talent for other musicians, man!

In Sacha’s defense, all of these bands are awesome, and all of these bands are wwwaayyy different from one another. Future Usses is no exception. On their debut album, The Existential Haunting, the instrumental trio — which also features drummer Derek Donley (Bereft, National Sunday Law)  and bassist Dan Wilburn — offer up six tracks that are once heavy and dreamy, crunchy and (as the album’s title suggests) ghostly. Take, for example, the first single, “What Is Anything,” which we’re thrilled to be debuting today on MetalSucks: the track will make listeners feel as though they’re floating one moment and shackled to a rock the next. Think Explosions in the Sky, Russian Circles, and This Will Destroy You and you’ll have some idea of what to expect from Future Usses.

The Existential Haunting will drop September 14 via Pelagic Records. Says Dunable of the record:

“This album is the end result of almost five years of rewriting, rerecording, and reconceptualizing what these songs were and what this band was going to be. With the help of my bandmates and everyone involved in the production of this album, we made something truly unique and special. Totally worth the wait, and we can’t wait to finally bring it to you in person.”

Do yourself a favor and check out “What Is Anything” below! Then pre-order The Existential Haunting here (North America), here (Europe), or here (Australia). Drums and guitar were recorded at Clearlake Audio with Josh Newell (Intronaut, Cynic) and Donley, and bass with Jon Nunez (Torche), all in Los Angeles. Mixing was done by Converge’s Kurt Ballou at God City Studio. To date, the band has only played a handful of shows, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed for more in the not-too-distant future!
