Primitive Weapons “Keep the Lights On” with Doomy, Expansive New Track

0

You know what I absolutely fucking love? When metal bands change and evolve their sound over time.

You know what so many fans metal absolutely hate? Yeah…

With that in mind I’m very interested to hear how the fanbase of Primitive Weapons’, whose debut EP (2012) and following full-length (2015) trafficked in abrasive, churning, riffy post-hardcore, reacts to their new song “Keep the Lights On,” which shifts the bands sound in a markedly different, more exploratory, expansive and melodic direction.

As for me? I fucking love it. “Keep the Lights On” explores a much doomier side of the band’s sound, veering at times from post-hardcore into post-rock with a plodding, atmospheric foundation that leaves plenty of room for melodic guitar and vocals lines. It’s the next logical step for this band — it still sounds like Primitive Weapons, just evolved — and they’ve absolutely nailed it. For what it’s worth I actually think PW fans are gonna dig it too; I like to think of them as an open-minded bunch.

Surrender Yourself comes out on September 17th via Party Smasher Inc.
