To the surprise of no one, System of a Down vocalist Serj Tankian recently revealed that creative differences between himself and guitarist/vocalist Daron Malakian are the reason there hasn’t been a new System of a Down album since before there were white hairs in my beard. Tankian even says he didn’t really wanna make the band’s last two-album set, Mezmerize/Hypnotize. So it’s also not shocking that Malakian is now performing songs from that album with his new band, Daron Malakian and the Scars on Broadway featuring Daron Malakian (formerly known simply as ‘Scars on Broadway’).  Specifically, they’re performing “Lonely Day” and “Lost in Hollywood,” both of which could be interpreted as a commentary on the absence of SOAD’s other members. Maybe Tankian will reply via performances of “Prison Song” and “Suggestions”?
