Video Premiere: Irreversible Mechanism, “Abolution”

If “Abolution” is any indication of what Irreversible Mechanism’s forthcoming album Immersion will sound like, this band has done quite a bit of growing up since Infinite Fields, released in 2015. The band’s music has always utilized space-age atmospherics for profound effect, so that isn’t necessarily new, but with those elements now taking center stage they’re carving out a unique little niche for themselves. “Abolution” has plenty of the break-neck tech-death riffery that first put this band on the map years ago, but it’s the airy moments, the nooks and crannies of sound, that shine brightest here. Irreversible Mechanism have finally honed in on what it is to be themselves, and as is usually the case when bands go full bore into their own territory, the results are magnificent.

Check out the video for “Abolution” below, directed by Aleksey Misurov. Immersion comes out via Blood Music on September 14th; pre-order here.
