Trans-Siberian Orchestra Announce Winter Money-Printing Touring Plans

0

The Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s annual holiday season tour has become an exercise in how much money can be printed in as short a window as possible, with two separate versions of the production hitting the road at the same time in different cities for maximum coverage. The thing has become a gargantuan cultural institution, and even though I’ve heard it described as “Metal Disney” — and despite the fact that most of the people who attend probably don’t know much or care much about metal — several trusted metalhead friends of mine who’ve attended have told me it’s quite impressive. I’d totally go check it out… if someone offered me a free ticket!

In 2014 the tour grossed $51 million in just 52 days over 122 shows, and in 2016 it grossed nearly $57 million through 105 shows. That doesn’t even include merch sales, although it also doesn’t account for what must surely be massive touring expenses (production, rigging, crew, travel, accommodations, catering, etc.). I can’t find any numbers for 2017, but according to Statista it was the sixth highest-grossing tour by ticket sales numbers that year, so it couldn’t have been too bad.

The 2018 Trans-Siberian Orchestra tour has been announced, and it will once again be a holiday season whirlwind featuring two touring productions at the same time. How much will THIS year’s tour gross? Probably a whole lot! Your chances to give TSO some of your money are listed below. If someone wants to gimme a free ticket, well… you know how to find me.
