Corey Taylor Thinks™ Knotfest Could Expand Into Something Bigger

Corey Taylor Thinks™ Knotfest Could Expand Into Something BiggerKnotfest has been running strong every year since 2012 (with a lone year off in 2013), building itself into one of North America’s premiere metal festivals. Colombia, Mexico and Japan have also hosted the event, with Bogota playing host to this year’s sole Knotfest. Slipknot don’t even always play the thing, and fans don’t seem to mind; it’s more about the festival experience.

When asked by Jamey Jasta on his podcast about any potential future plans for expanding Knotfest into something bigger, we learned that Corey Taylor thinks™ it’s definitely a possibility. While he didn’t directly address Jasta’s question — whether Knotfest could turn into a touring festival, ala Ozzfest, Mayhem, Warped, etc — he does seem to think there’s potential for it to grow:

“It’s definitely something we’re thinking about and it’s one of the reasons why we built it the way we have. For us it was about the foundation of the brand itself. It was making sure that this was something that we could continue to build up. You don’t want to go from zero to a million.

“So, it’s something that we’re definitely thinking about—certain spots in America—making ‘Knotfest‘ dates. And, this is important, we’re not afraid to take it away for a year and then bring it back.

“That’s what people don’t understand. It’s not completely gone, ’cause we’re doing the one in Colombia. But, it doesn’t have to be a yearly thing.

“Do it one country one year, do it in a couple other countries the next year. It doesn’t have to be something like that so you’re constantly, constantly stabilizing your brand and making money and doing something cool… And you’re also creating supply and demand.”

And why not? The festival market in the U.S. is booming, with Danny Wimmer occupying the high end (Rock on the Range, Carolina Rebellion, etc.) and all sorts of smaller niche fests popping up all across the land (Migration Fest, Fire in the Mountains, Northwest Terror Fest, etc.). Europe has so many existing festivals it may be a tough market to crack, but the rest of the world is certainly ripe for the metal picking. If there’s a time for Knotfest to expand, now certainly feels like a good moment.
