Video: Joey Belladonna Sings Journey Songs at Local Karaoke Open Mic

0

Joey Belladonna has a rich history of performing non-Anthrax material in unexpected locations. His cover band Chief Big Way — for which he drums and sings — plays live occasionally in the Rochester, NY area (footage here), and he’s performed the national anthem before a number of sports games including for the Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bulls and Chicago Cubs.

His latest “cover set” found the singer at Founders Brewing in Grand Rapids, MI after Anthrax’s opening set for Slayer the night of August 7th. Unbeknownst to the bar’s patrons who were attending for open mic karaoke night, Belladonna hit the stage and performed a ten-minute set of Journey covers. As you’ll hear in the video below, things started out a bit rough — Joey is warbling and out of key — but he righted the ship quickly (perhaps he just needed a monitor adjustment), belting out the hits in a fashion that would make Steve Perry proud. Watch below, and imagine how embarrassing it’d be if you even attempted to sing these songs in your shower.
