Insane Clown Posse’s Violent J Says Shaggy 2 Dope Was “Just Having Fun” When He Tried to Drop Kick Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst

The season’s most thoroughly entertaining, thoroughly inconsequential story has no doubt been that of The Failed Drop Kick Heard ‘Round the World.

For those of you who somehow missed it the first time around: Limp Bizkit and Insane Clown Posse were both playing a festival, and during Limp Bizkit’s set, ICP co-frontman Shaggy 2 Dope tried, and failed, to drop kick Fred Durst. And while video of the incident made it look as though Mr. 2 Dope may have been just horsing around, eyewitness reports from the event indicated that he may have gotten into a physical altercation with Durst’s security and/or been arrested following the attack. Furthermore, Limp Bizkit DJ Lethal quickly took to social media to call 2 Dope some not-very-nice names. In fact, the feud only seemed to resolve itself after the intervention of the Iron Sheik. No, that’s not a joke. I told you, this story has been thoroughly entertaining.

ANYWAY, now the other half of ICP, Violent J — né Joseph Bruce — has given a quote which will back up everyone’s original theory, i.e., Shaggy 2 Dope’s attack was never a serious one. From a new interview with The Orange County Register:

“Well, you know, just wild style. Fred Durst is a friend of ours, you know what I mean? Just having fun. Things look so crazy when they get into the news wire. He obviously threw it as a fake thing. If he actually wanted to hit him I don’t think he would have thrown a pro wrestling dropkick. It probably would have looked a lot more serious and ruthless.”

So there you have it. There is no real beef between Limp Bizkit and Insane Clown Posse. Of course, why Durst didn’t speak up and end this sooner when Lethal went on his social media rant is anyone’s guess. Durst may not even be aware that DJ Lethal still exists.

In related news, I have now learned that “Just wild style” is considered an appropriate response to questions that aren’t “Name the best break dancing movie of 1983,” and will now proceed with my life accordingly.
