Shit That Comes Out Today, October 26, 2018

Regarding last week’s experiment, I have a few things to say. 1) Cryptopsy won, but I was going to cover that anyway and 2) Hashtown brought up a good point in that although I’m very used to knowing where to find new releases, it’s my job to get you guys that information, which would make voting on upcoming stuff difficult for anyone else who doesn’t run a release column. We’ll try this again for next week so pick something from here, or for all of you that condescendingly drop Bandcamp links in the comments, do that and then upvote what you want. Other than that, shout out to my good friend Dan for getting married this weekend and for making me a groomsman. I’m not sure who agreed it was a good idea to let me near the open bar but that’s not exactly my problem. Oh, and all the featured stuff is good this week. Enjoy.

Bloodbath
The Arrow Of Satan Is Drawn (Peaceville)

For the uninitiated, Bloodbath are a supergroup featuring members of Katatonia, Paradise Lost, Opeth and more, and The Arrow Of Satan Is Drawn is the outfit’s fifth full-length album. As far as quality, supergroups don’t always live up to expectations, but Bloodbath regularly do and this album is no different. Although its finale isn’t as strong as the rest of the album, it’s still heavy as hell and a lot of fun to listen to so there’s no reason to pass this up unless you hate good music, which a lot of you do. Cryptopsy
The Book Of Suffering – Tome II (EP) (N/A)

If you feel like your week hasn’t been angry and aggressive enough then boy do I have the record for you. Cryptopsy are chaos in death metal form, not that I would call any death metal tame. But much like Aborted, Cryptopsy are one of my go-to bands when I need the intensity turned up to 11 along with having the knob ripped off and thrown into a meat grinder. If you want something easy to listen to then keep looking because this isn’t it, but otherwise, Tome II is the most inviting chainsaw that you’ve ever stuck your hand on.

Hate Eternal
Upon Desolate Sounds
On a playlist with Morbid angel, Nile and Vital Remains

Hate Eternal are yet another band that desire nothing but to put your corporeal form into a blender and shred it until it’s thinner than a warm Natty Light. Again, this is not a band for the weak of heart because the auditory assault offered up is in the upper echelon of extremity. If you were to drop this album in an elevator, the cables would snap. If you try to bench press this album, it will crush your rib cage. If you so much as even joke about disrespecting this album then it will probably strangle you in your sleep while sticking its dick in one ear and fucking your brains out the other. Upon Desolate Sands is hands down my pick of the week.

Into Eternity

The Sirens is Into Eternity’s first new album in 10 years and although I never listened to this band when I was 15, I’ve still found myself enjoying what I’ve heard from it so far. It’s not typical death metal in the sense that it’s mixed up a little bit more than your regular blast beats and doom and gloom, using melodies, non-annoying clean vocals and interludes. Even if female death metal vocalists turn you off, which they shouldn’t, give the Sirens a shot about you’ll undoubtedly be able to find something to like about it.

Cognitive
Matricide (Unique Leader)
On a playlist with Internal bleeding, Inanimate Esxistence and The Black Dahlia Murder
Listen: “Omnicide”

Almost immediately upon first listen of “Omnicide,” I thought that this band makes me think of what The Black Dahlia Murder would sound like with fewer melodies and more technicality. So needless to say, I fucking love what I’ve heard from Cognitive and I’m also amazed that I made it through five featured bands this week without shitting on anything. Not sure how many other times that’s happened but I could count the number on one hand. Cognitive are fucking awesome for some “rip your face off and sew it back on” death metal and just like everything else I’ve covered this week, you don’t want to pass this record up.
