Darkest Hour Make Ice Cream Now

Darkest Hour have always been ahead of their time. They were playing what is now popularly known as ‘metalcore’ before anyone knew what the fuck that was and we all just called it “hardcore-infused melodic death metal.” They do not follow trends — they set ’em, and they set ’em well in advance.

So it makes sense that a time when every metal band in the world is making beer and socks and watches and candles and toilet seats and dildos and baby strollers, Darkest Hour have actually found an innovative new avenue of branding that no other artist in extreme music has exploited to date: ice cream.

Yes, it’s true — Darkest Hour are partnering with fellow Washington, D.C. trailblazers Mount Desert Island Ice Cream to launch a new flavor, Savor the Chill, this month (the D.C. Mout Desert Island Ice Cream location — the confectioners’ first outside of Maine — is run by Brian Lowit and Melissa Quinley, two longtime employees at the punk label Dischord Records, so it’s got music cred and deliciousness cred). The flavor is available at the shop today through November 22, along with a limited edition t-shirt designed for their about-to-begin mini-tour with Damnation A.D., Cemetery Piss, Walk the Plank and No Man.

Says the band of the collaboration:

We worked diligently (AND ATE A TON OF ICE CREAM) to help perfect this amazing blend of dark chocolate and what else ??? WHISKEY!

So that sounds delicious. D.C.-area residents should DEFINITELY make time to swing by MDI and try a scoop or twelve.

Meanwhile, that upcoming mini-tour kicks off in just two weeks! Dates are below, and advance tickets can be purchased here. Darkest Hour live is such a kick-ass experience you’ll have a boot print on your ass for weeks after the show — definitely do not miss it!!!
