Synthwave Sunday: VHS Glitch, They Made Me An Animal

Synthwave Sunday: VHS Glitch, They Made Me An AnimalSynthwave progenitor VHS Glitch is always good for some supremely spooky new music this time of year, and his latest release is no exception: They Made Me An Animal delivers exactly the type of John Carpenter-inspired, dark, moody jams that got us into this genre in the first place.

For his fifth (!) consecutive Halloween album release, Glitch digs deep into the sonic palette of vintage synth tones for some of his most complete, lush, well thought-out arrangements yet. This is the stuff dark synthwave is made of, and I’m really not sure how to explain it other than you know it when you hear it. There’s a level of complexity here — the tones, the arrangements, the melodies, the orchestrations, the songwriting, the layering — that a lot of the newer acts on the scene simply don’t possess. Glitch is a goddamn master at his craft, and all the songs here are memorable smashes. Bow down.
