Mastodon are Working on New Music!

It hasn’t even been two years since Mastodon released Emperor of Sand (and just a barely a year since the Cold Dark Place EP), but the band is already back at it despite Brent Hinds’ desperate pleas for some time off and the death of the band’s longtime manager Nick John. The metal don’t stop, won’t stop.

Drummer Brann Dailor posted a photo last night of he and guitarist Bill Kelliher making music together with Brent Hinds tagged, but not pictured. It’s a bit premature from what we can see here to say whether the band is recording a new album, but the hashtag #heavymetalvomitparty makes me think they’re throwing around riff ideas, writing collaboratively and perhaps laying down some demos. Mastodon will tour Europe in January and February, so my best guess is that this is the very beginning of the writing process for album number eight and that recording will commence in earnest at some point in the middle or end of 2019.

European tour dates at the bottom of this post. We’ll keep you all updated, naturally.
