Guns N’ Roses Guitarist Says the Band’s New Album “Will Happen Faster Than You Think”

Guns N’ Roses may not have a newly-recorded T. Rex cover coming out in 2019… but that doesn’t mean they won’t release any new music next year.

This according to guitarist Richard Fortus, who joined GN’R in 2002, appears on Chinese Democracy, and was asked to stay on after Slash and Duff McKagan returned to the fold in 2016.

In a new interview with  KSHE.95, Fortus makes it sound as though getting a new album out is a top priority for the band:

“We’re going to try and do another record and get it out soon. The band’s so great right now.

“I think it will happen faster than you think. I sure hope it happens faster than you think.”

Fortus went so far as to say “It could definitely happen” when asked if the band might get something out before 2019. He was somewhat coy, however, if this meant the band already has new material: “Maybe. There might be stuff started. We’re hoping to get one out very soon.”

As exciting as it is to hear Fortus say all that, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that he’s not exactly, y’know, in charge in Guns N’ Roses. Slash just released a new solo album, Duff has a new solo album coming out, Axl Rose may or may not be doing something with AC/DC, and Fortus also predicted there’d be new Guns music out “within the year” in 2014, and that obviously didn’t pan out. Nobody wants new GN’R music more than the guy who utilizes the nom de plume ‘Axl Rosenberg,’ I just don’t think anyone should let their hopes get up too high, y’know?
