Scorched’s Ecliptic Butchery is Your Much Needed Death Metal Blast of the Day

Scorched’s Ecliptic Butchery is Your Much Needed Death Metal Blast of the DayAdd Scorched’s Ecliptic Butchery to the ever-growing list of great metal albums I missed last year (I was too busy waxing ecstatic about Robyn and writing headlines about Corey Taylor, sorry!).

The Delaware outfit’s second full-length is just what’s needed on this dreary, overcast winter day, a full-throated, full-throttle blast of old school death metal projected through the filter of all sorts of other shit, much like today’s genre mish-mashing upstarts such as Gatecreeper, Outer Heaven and Blood Incantation. While OSDM serves as the base, sludge, thrash and doom all creep their way into the band’s sound, resulting in an assault on the senses that doesn’t stick on any one part or style long enough to get boring. That groove section in the middle of “Disfiguring Operations” and that Morbid Angel pick-scrape action in “Bodies Collect;” woof, fucking undeniable! And it doesn’t relent throughout the album’s 38-minute run time.

Stream Ecliptic Butchery below (it’s out now via 20 Buck Spin; order here), and catch the band on tour starting later this week (dates underneath the embed).
