Windhand Release Psychedelic Video For “First to Die”

When I was in high school I thought I was super hip and made a playlist of songs to get high to. If that playlist still existed today, it would have a more sophisticated selection besides your standard issue Pink Floyd and Jefferson Airplane.

Windhand just released their newest video for “First to Die,” off of their fourth studio album, Eternal Return, and it’s the psychedelic ride that high school me didn’t know she needed. This song has all the makings of an experience that’ll get your basement fogged up with of its doomy, stoner rock goodness that is stark and prepossessing with a touch of grunge.

The video for “First to Die” takes you on a mind-bending visual expedition while telling the story of a woman who is crushed by the anxiety of living in a large city. After experiencing a mental breakdown, she is ultimately reborn with a different point of view. Director Philippe Grenade, whose inspiration for this video was the song lyric “First you die, to be reborn,” explains it as “a psychic death and rebirth.”

Grab your favorite stoner snacks — I recommend Taco Bell’s $5 box — and press play on this mesmerizing video down below. You can purchase your digital copy of Eternal Return here, or obtain a physical package here.
