Shit That Comes Out Today: March 8th, 2019

0

Sup, fools. I don’t have much to report today, besides life is boring up here in yee-haw country and I’m developing a gnarly case of cabin fever. However, due to an upheaval in life circumstances, I have actual free time for the first time in my life. I have no idea what the hell I’m gonna do with myself yet, but until I figure that out, I have a backlog of Steam games to keep me entertained, along with plenty of new metal releases for my (and your) listening pleasure:

Shit That Comes Out Today: March 8th, 2019Ataraxie
Résignés (Deadlight)
FFO Mournful Congregation, Ahab

Full Album Stream

At a whopping 83 minutes long, the latest full-length from France’s Ataraxie is not for the faint of heart. Bludgeoning funeral doom pulls the listener into an endless black hole, stretching and reshaping the fabric of reality until it’s unrecognizable as anything of this world. The downtrodden tempos are broken up with spells of grinding death, giving Résignés a meticulous, thoughtfully-crafted air of intent. Never succumbing to monotony or repetition, it tends to the flames of the nihilistic inferno from start to finish.

Shit That Comes Out Today: March 8th, 2019

Misery Index
Rituals Of Power (Season of Mist)
Full Album Stream

I suppose I could say some stuff here about Misery Index’s latest politically-driven creation, but since Axl already gave Rituals of Power a glistening review, I’ll send you that way, instead. I’m sure you’d much rather read his commentary than mine, anyway.

Shit That Comes Out Today: March 8th, 2019Ringarë
Under Pale Moon (Iron Bonehead)
FFO Chaos Moon, Emperor

Full Album Stream

In a genre where good bands are typically labeled with words like “disgusting”, “filthy”, and “pulverizing,” it’s a bold move to describe a band as simply “beautiful.” Under Pale Moon is cold, mysterious, and nostalgic, resurrecting a long-lost style of black metal rich with fuzzy, distant synths that shroud the music in a celestial mist. Key word: SYNTHS!!!

Shit That Comes Out Today: March 8th, 2019Equipoise
Demiurgus (The Artisan Era)
FFO Beyond Creation, Inferi, Alkaloid

Full Album Stream

Apparently I’m dyslexic, because I’ve been reading this band’s name as “Epuiqoise” for months. Silly me. Anyway, the new album from the seven-piece (!) prog supergroup is quite a masterpiece. While that number of members may seem like overkill, it totally works — each of the three guitarists abuse their instruments in different ways, giving each riff and solo a distinct, individual style. Notably, the line-up also features one of my favorite bassists in metal, Hugo Doyon-Karout of Beyond Creation. His virtuosic work sets the foundation for the symphony happening above, often dancing with the other parts in counterpoint to give a very neoclassical feel. While Demiurgus probably won’t be converting those who are too kvlt for this kind of shreddery, tech-death devotees will agree that this is one of the genre’s greatest achievements to date.
