Staind’s Aaron Lewis Storms Off Stage (Again)

Is Aaron Lewis the new Wes Scantlin?

For the second time in a little more than a month, the Staind frontman cut an acoustic solo show short because people in the crowd were talking. Lewis was playing (or attempting to play) Staind’s “Intro” in Oklahoma City this past Saturday night, March 9, when he threw his latest hissy fit:

“Listen, if you don’t shut the fuck up, you can’t even hear the guitar. So shut up. I’ve got three more fucking minutes — three. Can you please for once…?

“Through the whole fucking evening, you guys have talked all fucking night. Shut the fuck up or I’m done.”

Lewis continued:

“It’s so fucking ironic that this fucking song is a ‘thank you,’ and I can’t get you to shut the fuck up to hear it.”

Which isn’t really ironic at all. Ironic is a guy not-at-all humbly scolding people for not letting him make what is meant to be a humble gesture (that of saying “thank you,” natch). Of course, Lewis thinks Fred Durst is like the Dalai Lama, so you wouldn’t expect him to know what irony is.

Although Lewis getting into the habit of losing his temper when people talk at a rock show makes him look like an out of touch old man at best and a prima donna at worst, there is a silver lining to this story: this all happened during the closing song of his set, so the crowd didn’t get screwed too badly. And unlike when he pulled a similar stunt in Pharr, TX in February, he didn’t make any tacitly racist comments before leaving the stage. So that’s progress I suppose.

Still, I hope Lewis doesn’t make a habit out of this, if only because I always feel for fans who shell out money to see an artist and don’t get the show they deserve. Then again, you shouldn’t be paying to see this putz anyway, so maybe fans subjected to this behavior are getting the show they deserve.
