Avandra Debut New Single “Derelict Minds,” Featuring Ex-Dream Theater Keyboardist

0

The Puerto Rican prog group Avandra have released “Derelict Minds” off their upcoming album Descender, and I don’t think you’re ready for it.

If you’re a plebe like me, it might’ve been unbeknownst to you that the band’s first album, Tymora, brought them international acclaim and led to their signing with Blood Music. The originator of the band, Christian Ayala, then wrote what became Descender as a result of the devastation that Hurricane Maria left behind in his hometown of Puerto Rico. In 2018, the band traveled to New Hampshire to record Descender with impressive guests such as Astronoid’s Daniel Schwartz and ex-Dream Theater keyboardist Kevin Moore, who is featured on “Derelict Minds.”

If you’re a fan of Dream Theatre, Opeth, or Porcupine Tree, you will likely dig this song, which is full of funky bass rhythms, ambient sounds, and the tastiest of prog chords, all delivered to your ears ever so exquisitely. The anthemic cadences of the guitars will leave you humming all day long, even after just one listen.

You can stream “Derelict Minds” below. Descender is set for release on April 26. You can pre-order it here.
