Combichrist Release Intense Video For New Single, “Understand”
“They won’t discriminate, it will swallow you whole!” screams vocalist Andy LaPlegua, full of emotion, in the hellish world created by director Jason Alacrity in Combichrist’s new music for “Understand.” The video guides the viewer through the story of a space traveler awaking from a long fall to find herself trapped inside a bizarre, grotesque nightmare, a metaphor for someone suffering from mental illness, unable to escape their own mind. LaPlegua says about the video, “I’m addressing themes and personal feelings that to date I’ve kept hidden. Anxiety, fear, the unknown, and how they take a toll on people’s lives, on my life.”
The song brings intense aggression once it breaks free and starts pounding away after the one-minute introduction, incorporating classic industrial guitar, repetitively pounding drums, and electronic elements that summon a sci-fi nightmare through hypnotic, repeating loops. The vocals sound anguished, relaying the emotion of the themes LaPlegua mentioned above, making the track equal parts therapy and complete banger. Have any of you seen Event Horizon? Because this video is giving me nightmarish flashbacks.
