Mastodon Discuss Brent Hinds’ Fight with Shavo Odadjian in Latest Crack the Skye Documentary Episode

0

I’m running out of ways to say this, but Mastodon’s ongoing Crack the Skye documentary series, commemorating the album’s tenth anniversary, is positively fantastic. I implore any Mastodon fan, especially those to whom Crack the Skye was crucial, to watch it. Watch ALL of it! You can get caught up on episodes one, two, three, four and five if you haven’t seen them yet.

Episode six tackles the 2007 incident that landed guitarist Brent Hinds in a coma following an altercation at the MTV Video Music Awards with System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian and musician William Hudson. Hinds suffered two black eyes, brain hemorrhaging and a broken nose and spent some time in the hospital, and we learn in this latest video that he experienced symptoms of vertigo, dizziness and nausea for eight months afterwards. While Hinds and the other band members don’t go into the specifics about the fight, they focus on how it inspired Hinds’ musical contributions to Crack the Skye. We also get to see some footage of Hinds laying down what have since become iconic guitar solos, and that in itself is a treat.

Take a gander below. Mastodon are currently performing Crack the Skye in full on tour with Coheed and Cambria; dates here.
