Punk’d is Coming Back to MTV

0

Punk’d was a runaway success when it first hit MTV in 2003. Even though we were all still upset MTV barely aired music videos anymore, it was impossible not to enjoy the schadenfreude of watching Ashton Kutcher pull off pranks on unsuspecting celebrities.

The original show’s run ended in 2007 (it came back for a single season on MTV in 2012 and then BET re-booted it for another in 2015), but according to TV Line it’s now getting a full reboot, although the format will be a bit different to keep up with the times. Twenty episodes of the series have been ordered, each just 10 minutes in length and available to stream on Quibi, a “mobile-first media technology platform.” MTV will have a role in the production of the series but will not be airing it on the network’s television networks. The article does not say who will host, but it seems unlikely Kutcher will come back.

MTV has also given the reboot green light to Singled Out, the dating show hosted by Chris Hardwick, Jenny McCarthy and Carmen Electra that ran from 1995 to 1998. Oh, man… young Vince had the biggest crushed on Jenny McCarthy and Carmen Electra because of that show! I think Singled Out might fare even better than Punk’d in today’s dating-obsessed media culture.

Re-live some of Punk’d‘s greatest moments in the video below and tell us in the comments what you think of the reboot’s potential.
