Video Premiere: Shadow of Intent, “Barren and Breathless Macrocosm” (ft. Trevor Strnad)

Shadow of Intent are one of the most exciting up and coming bands in metal. Their 2017 release, Reclaimer was nothing short of a triumph of symphonic deathcore that paved the way for the Connecticut four-piece to lay waste not only to your ears, but to the entire galaxy. Here at MetalSucks, we got early access to the first step in the conquest that is their upcoming third full-length release, Melancholy.

“Barren and Breathless Macrocosm” is more blackened and melodic than the band’s previous work and features a guest spot from The Black Dahlia Murder’s Trevor Strnad. Rather than focusing on the Halo video game franchise like the band’s past work, this album dives in to explore the planes of life and death, as shown on the absurdly cool album artwork. From vocalist Ben Duerr:

“What you see is the culmination of two long years of hard work, discipline, aggravation and obsession. I believe we have all pushed ourselves above and beyond, being unafraid to attempt things unfamiliar to us, and giving our absolute best performances. Every track is unique, and represents the band in ways you’ve never heard before. This is the record we’ve always aspired to write. This is Melacholy.”

Shadow of Intent worked with Francesco Ferrini of Fleshgod Apocalypse for the keyboard arrangements and also welcomed drummer Anthony Barone (ex-Aegaeon / A Night In Texas) into the band. If that weren’t enough, the album was engineered by Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy). We can’t overstate how excited we are for this album at the MetalSucks Mansion, so without further ado, we present to you “Barren and Breathless Macrocosm.”

Melancholy drops August 16th and you can pre-order here: US / EU. You can also catch Shadow of Intent on tour in North America this fall with Despised Icon, Kublai Khan and Ingested. Dates below:
