In what seems destined to be this generation’s Dylan at Newport, Animals as Leaders guitarist Javier Reyes has revealed that the next Animals as Leaders album may very well include vocals.

Reyes told The Mike James Rock Show:

“I think there’s definitely parts that are a progression of what we’ve been doing, but at the same time, we try not to repeat ourselves too much so we try to implement some new things in the album. I think this time around we might even have a guest instrumentalist, maybe a vocalist…

“We don’t know yet, there’s a bunch of stuff in the air. We want to do something different, we already have, you know, five albums under our belt, so I think if we wanted to experiment, now’s the time.”

As to who might provide those vocals, well, obviously we don’t know! There’s a lot of directions in which the band could move depending on who they pick. Even if they just have a guest singer for one or two songs — which is how Reyes makes it sound — I’d be beyond curious to hear it.

Which we will, eventually, although we still have a minute — Reyes says the band hopes to get something out in 2020.
