Chimaira Auctioning 3¢ Royalty Check for Charity

In the event that you thought metal musicians were exaggerating about the extremely low royalty rates in the modern music industry: Chimaira are currently auctioning a royalty check for three cents. Which means the check is worth less than the cost of printing and mailing that check. I know the labels are legally obligated to pay out royalties on a certain schedule, but that is just wasteful, man.

ANYWAY, Chimaira aren’t auctioning off the check just to be droll: 10% of the proceeds will go to benefit Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, Inc., which is “dedicated to its mission of finding a cure for Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis and improving the quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases.” Chimaira frontman Mark Hunter has said in the past that his girlfriend suffers from Crohn’s Disease, so we can assume the cause is very personal to him.

To sweeten the deal, the winner of the auction will also get a signed copy of the band’s 2007 album, Resurrection.

As of right now, the leading bid on the auction is $185.50. You can learn more and bid here.

Meanwhile, The PRP points out that this teeny tiny lil’ check is not the lowest royalty payment on record, thanks to a recent tweet from Throwdown:

Oomph! Looks like Throwdown’s label were the ones throwing haymakers, eh?
