Four Ideas for a Totally Metal Vacation

0

Summer festival season is the best time to map out a vacation plan for the year, giving you the perfect opportunity to hit some of the most popular metal festivals around the world and get some of your favorite bands off that bucket list. Your festival of choice can be just one part of your vacation, though, as you should also explore the city it’s held in and embark on some sight-seeing in the surrounding area. So, in case you haven’t already made plans and bought tickets, here are some great ideas for a true metalhead vacation.

The Czech Republic and the Masters of Rock Festival

For this one you will have to hurry up since it’s happening this week! As you might already know, Masters of Rock is a large heavy metal festival held in Vizovice, Czech Republic. Over the years it has featured some of the most renowned names in the industry from Manowar to Sabaton, and this year’s headliners include Avantasia and Dream Theater. Taking into consideration that a music festival is a great setting for metalhead dating opportunities, you might want to consider some locations to visit with your prospective partner after the festival. And given the fact that the Czech Republic has a great and affordable railroad system, visiting Prague or the renowned Sedlec Ossuary should definitely make your list.

Germany and the Wacken Open Air Festival

One of the most famous metalhead festivals in the world is the Wacken Open Air Festival, held during the first week of August in the village of Wacken in Schleswig-Holstein. It features some of the biggest names in metal and guarantees an unforgettable time for any metalhead that visits. Wacken sells out year after year, so planning your vacation around it needs to start very early to make sure you get tickets on time. As for the sights that you might want to include while in the region, there is always the Holstentor in Lübeck, built in 1464. Lübeck’s charming red-brick city gate is a renowned sight that even captured the imagination of Andy Warhol himself.

70,000 Tons Of Metal Cruise (for the pirate in you)

This might be the ideal balance between a vacation and fantastic music festival for any metalhead out there. Just imagine, a heavy metal music festival that takes place on board a cruise ship along with a one-day on-shore program at a selected Caribbean destination, making for a vacation option worthy of any metalhead! The best part is that the cruise takes place in January, so if you live in the Northern Hemisphere you can escape the winter and have a great time on the warm Caribbean Sea sailing from Ft. Lauderdale, FL to Cozumel, Mexico, where the 2020 boat is headed. As for the lineup, no need to worry, this festival never disappoints, and for 2020 it promises 60 heavy metal bands performing 120+ live sets (two each), with acts set to be announced soon. What more can a true metalhead ask for?

Mexico City and Domination Fest

At a reasonable distance for many Americans to travel, Domination Fest, held in Mexico City, has grown in size in recent years to rival the great European festivals. The two-day 2019 lineup this past May included classic headliners Kiss and Alice Cooper along with dozens of more modern, heavier hitters such as Lamb of God, Parkway Drive, The Black Dahlia Murder, Satyricon, Converge, Animals as Leaders, Meshuggah, Municipal Waste and many, many more. While you’re in the area, why not explore the streets of Mexico City itself, which has an unlimited supply of incredible Mexican cuisine to offer? And just outside the city you can explore the massive Teotihuacan Pyramids, built in roughly 200 A.D., which will make for some absolutely epic invisible oranges metal pose photos.

Whether it’s high seas, ancient pyramids or camping in the European countryside, options abound for totally metal vacations. Not only will you get to hear some of your favorite bands live, but also meet new people, give your love life a boost and get to explore some new and fun destinations. So start planning your trip right away!
